    Enter Network Password

Have a dilemma here about this "Enter Network Password" issue.

Been reading some of the other threads and tried some of the settings offered and still nothing seems to work. I'm not understanding why I have to enter a network password and where its coming from. Obliviously its from Windows 7. Also I'm assuming the enter network password is for the homegroup? I don't even have homegroup setup or enabled. If it was once setup and then disabled will the password prompt still pop-up? I'm currently using the work network as the network location, with password protect sharing off and under Homegroup connections use User Account and passwords.

I have a windows server 03 running and all my comps can login with the 03 local account but windows 7 wont let me with out putting in a "Enter Network Password". I even tested this using XP on vmware bridged environment and it let me login. So I dont know what the deal is with Windows7.

I got it fixed: Went to Networking & Sharing Center then to See full map get the name of computer, then go to Control Panel then to Credential Manager removed old credentials (windows had JERRY-PC/DESKTOP) Then click on add windows credentials put in computers name as seen in Full Map & user name & password.
    Hope this helps Jerry

    Thanks but it didn't work.

I don't see any other computers using network map, is windows 7 still using netbios? Do I have to install LLTD on the other computers to have 7 see them?

Like Burger i have the same problem and have tried what seems like every solution.
Im not using simple file sharing for my xp client, enabled ntfs permissions to allow the 'everyone' account access full controll on the xp share and full control on the share permission.
On the 7 laptop i have not set up the homegroup method for file sharing, i have disable password protected sharing and enabled the file and printer sharing and network discovery under the advanced sharing options. There is no password for the guest account and the account is disabled.

Still when i connect to my xp box via unc path through command prompt, mapping a network drive or via network neibourhood from windows 7 i get asked to enter my network password. This should not be. A lot of forums have the simple solution of just turning off password file sharing in 7 and turning off simple file sharing under xp however this is just not working.

Im considering going to linux netbook os and connecting via samba, even that seems like a better solution.

With guest account enabled on the win 7 starter laptop and guest added into the ntfs perms on the xp laptop i can access share local over the lan however i still have to enter the 'guest' username credentials into the network password prompt provided by 7. Does anyone know how to get rid of this prompt? Maybe some tricky moves in the registry??

This is standard for "guest" accounts. Local guest / domain guest accounts are strictly temporary cache.

Chev65 that doesnt work for Windows 7 Starter as it doesnt have any access to the group policy editor to make any changes to local security policies. There has to be a solution to this problem somewhere or maybe Starter edition is just meant to be that; started with and finished with a different OS.

If you create the same user account and password on both machines and log on with that account the only time you ever have to enter a password is when you first logon. I don't understand the aversion to using passwords.

Enter Network Password issue with email

When sending email, I was getting the "Enter Network Password" window.
Solved the problem by changing the user from
    "JoeBlow@ dumpwindows.com"
    to
    "JoeBlow"

No more "Enter Network Password" window
