No Internet/Network Access on LAN despite successful pings

    Hello,

Just joined this forum for some advice and to see how to solve a strange problem I have with my internet. Specifically, my internet does not work at all on my PC. This is a LAN connection. I have a modem with wired/wireless capabilities from my ISP. The wireless works.

Just to lay out all the details:

-I am using a wired connection, ethernet cable directly into the modem.
-I am using Shaw Cable (Canadian ISP)
-The Modem/Router combo I am using is a Cisco DPC3825
    -I am using Windows 7 Professional, 64bit
-I just use the built in Windows Firewall, AVG Free, Spybot S&D.
-The nature of the problem is very strange to me. I can get pings when I ping google or yahoo.
-the LAN connection 'connects', and will show some packet activity, but anything through a browser or applications like gaming cannot use the internet. Windows connection diagnostics will either say I am connected to the internet, or will fail to diagnose the problem.

At this point, I've tried the basic 'resetting' and reseating of the modem and coaxial connections. I've plugged the ethernet cable into another computer and the internet has worked then. I've tried some of the common fixes for similar issues like reinstalling drivers for the network adapter, and command prompt fixes (flushdns, winsock, etc). None of these do anything.

I believe the connection is a setting on my PC or possibly a hardware issue as well but still not sure exactly what.

How can I find out what exactly is my problem and how do I fix it?

You should try starting Windows in safe mode with networking to see if the problem persists.

Hi, I have restarted in safe mode and done most of the basic fixes such as resetting the modem and all that. Strangely, Windows can update, and my widgets (weather) seem to work. However, no browsers or applications can access the internet. I just used these commands netsh winsock reset catalog netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log netsh adv firewall reset netsh branchcache reset but no changes still. I just picked up a cheap network adapter as well, just to see if it was something wrong on the part of the hardware on the onboard network adapter. It still does not work. What kind of other problems might this be?

Looks like the fix everything network related website didn't quite fix the problem...I guess were supposed to rely on websites and links to fix problems these days.

From what I'm seeing here you might want to run some more virus scans because something is preventing those browsers from going anywhere and usually resetting winsock or TCP/Ip would fix that sort of problem unless there is something else causing it.

I would run a system file scan at the very least by running the sfc /scannow command in an elevated command prompt.

After that I'd reset the network stack by running the file below and hope for the best.

There a few problems the scans removed a lot of malware which is a start

remove Akamai NetSession Interface its p2p and can kill the network

Your host file has over 15000 entries which can block lots of things this is caused by spybot remove it its not effective now as its missed all the malware we have remove.

Goto this ms webpage and click on fix it to set the host file back to default

    Enable these devices
    Name: PdaNet Broadband Adapter
    Description: PdaNet Broadband Adapter
    Class Guid: {4d36e972-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
    Manufacturer: June Fabrics Technology Inc.
    Service: pneteth
Problem: : This device is disabled. (Code 22)

Name: Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller

    Class Guid: {4d36e972-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
    Manufacturer: Realtek
    Service: RTL8167
Problem: : This device is disabled. (Code 22)
Resolution: In Device Manager, click "Action", and then click "Enable Device". This starts the Enable Device wizard. Follow the instructions.

Description: Windows is unable to verify the image integrity of the file \Device\HarddiskVolume2\Windows\SysWOW64\FsUsbExDisk.Sys because file hash could not be found on the system. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source.

There are corrupt files so we need to check the hard drive for errors and try and fix corrupt files

Open a cmd window then type

    chkdsk c: /r

repeat for other drives by changing c: for the drive letters

Open an elevated cmd prompt ie find cmd.exe right click and choose run as admin then type

    scf /scannow
