No Internet/Network Access on LAN despite successful pings
Hello,
Just joined this forum for some advice and to see how to solve a strange problem I have with my internet. Specifically, my internet does not work at all on my PC. This is a LAN connection. I have a modem with wired/wireless capabilities from my ISP. The wireless works.
Just to lay out all the details:
-I am using a wired connection, ethernet cable directly into the modem.
-I am using Shaw Cable (Canadian ISP)
-The Modem/Router combo I am using is a Cisco DPC3825
-I am using Windows 7 Professional, 64bit
-I just use the built in Windows Firewall, AVG Free, Spybot S&D.
-The nature of the problem is very strange to me. I can get pings when I ping google or yahoo.
-the LAN connection 'connects', and will show some packet activity, but anything through a browser or applications like gaming cannot use the internet. Windows connection diagnostics will either say I am connected to the internet, or will fail to diagnose the problem.
At this point, I've tried the basic 'resetting' and reseating of the modem and coaxial connections. I've plugged the ethernet cable into another computer and the internet has worked then. I've tried some of the common fixes for similar issues like reinstalling drivers for the network adapter, and command prompt fixes (flushdns, winsock, etc). None of these do anything.
I believe the connection is a setting on my PC or possibly a hardware issue as well but still not sure exactly what.
How can I find out what exactly is my problem and how do I fix it?
