Laptop slow to connect to internet

Hi all, newbie here. My laptop when switched on is slow to connect to the internet,( I use wifi to connect) I often have to wait 2 or 3 minutes before the internet connection is made. When i am eventually connected everything works just fine..Does anyone know why it takes this long to connect to the internet.

There can be many reasons why its slow to connect. When you are connected do you ever loose connection? Dose the WIFI just drop out?
I would recommend a driver update just to see if the problem is still there.
if you post what WiFi card you have (brand, OS, Bit) i would be more then happy to have a look for you.

Just to check you have installed this driver: Drivers for Atheros AR5B93 and Windows 7

If you have low signal it can take long to connect try moving closer to the router to see if that helps.

Firstly Harribo...I downloaded the driver as suggested but could not install it (i'm no technofobe).I tried moving the laptop closer to the router but it made no difference.

Samuria...Thanks for your links..I did as asked and saved all the results but do not know how to post them here, they are very lengthy..I have a buddy who could maybe help me with this..will try and post the reports/results in due course..Thanks Dave..

If your laptop has many networks in range it will constantly try them including yours. Delete networks that aren't yours. Then it should connect faster.

Đisable ipv6 on the wireles set the dns to 208.67.220 220 & 208.67.222.22 everything else seems clear but the network droped on the isp network one test isnt proof but it may indicate isp problems
