LF Good Quality Wifi Card for Gaming/Asus PCE-N53 Performance Issues

Hi there,

I recently purchased a Asus PCE-N53 Wifi Card for my computer and lets say it has been an extreme disappointment. I have been getting 3mb/s download while I have 50mbps bandwidth. I have contacted ASUS support and gone through all their steps and they are now telling me to send it in.

I have some gift cards I would like to use at Future Shop (here is their selection of network adapters.) If nothing there is good then please recommend whatever you think would work fine.

Thanks!

Something like this,

TP Link Wireless N450 Dual Band PCI Express Adapter (TL-WDN4800) : Network Cards - Future Shop

Have an older model of theirs as well as a router from them, and have never had a problem with either.

This same wireless NIC has many people with the same slow connection problem although there does appear to be a solution in the following link.

The latest driver and the registry adjustments in the link may help.

Hi Chev,

I did try this before contacting ASUS but it did not work. When I install the drivers it does seem a bit strange though (and ASUS never said anything about it), but on their support site it says the driver is v1.0.0.8 (I have Windows 7 64-bit), but when I install it I get this information in the Device Manager.

Driver Provider: Ralink Technology Corp.
Driver Date: 28/10/2011
Driver Version: 3.2.6.0

If we can troubleshoot out of this then I guess I should post more info.

Internet Provider: Shaw Communications
Router: ASUS RTAC66U
Modem: Cisco
Anti-Virus: ESET NOD32 7

Thanks for the info! That will be going on my list for my next purchase!

Yes it's just a rebranded Ralink NIC. These dual band NIC's can be picky about working with certain types of routers.

I noticed many similar slow connection complaints about this particular Asus dual band NIC.

More than likely this Asus NIC would work well when using one of their own dual band routers like the RT-N66U, N56U
