Remote Desktop cannot connect from my PC to server but my laptop can

The problem I am having is that I cannot connect to a remote computer (windows Server) with Remote Desktop.
I know that everything is configured correctly in Remote Desktop. In fact, I was able to connect to the server using my Wife's Laptop after I moved the .rdp file from my computer to hers.

Both computers are on the same network (Comcast Business, D-link router, only difference is that the PC is plugged in and the laptop uses WiFi).
Both computers have Norton 360 (the one that comes free with Comcast) and both computers use Windows 7 x64

Clearly, there is something running on my computer that prevents me from connecting using Remote Desktop. I have tried going after the usual suspects, like skype, Windows 7 firewall, etc. Nothing so far has allowed RDP to connect to the server. Meanwhile, from my wife's laptop it's easy as pie.

It's getting pretty frustrating and I was wondering if anyone has any good suggestions in this regard or something I could use to test the connection.

    Thank you.

    Hi from Sevenforums,

Are they both in the same subnet i.e 192.168.1.0/24 yours maybe different.

If in the same subnet can you ping the Laptop's IP address?

Example: Open a cmd prompt ping 192.168.1.2

Hi, thank you for the kind reply. We are not in the same subnet. I am connecting from California and the server is in Idaho. But as I have outlined in my post I am perfectly capable of connecting using my laptop. I have them side by side right now and I am connected to the remote desktop in the laptop but I can't connect from my PC (It's technically my wife's laptop that's why I'd rather use my PC to connect)

Also, the server I am connecting to has a format similar to this: remote.domain.com

When I try pinging that, the request times out but if I just try domain.com then it works. That happens on both computers.

As I noted in my OP, the two computers are setup very similarly, both with Norton, both win 7 64bit, yet one connects and the other doesn't. It's very frustrating.

    But thank you for answering.

Have you forwarded the remote port?

Since one of you is in california and the other is in idaho.

If you mean on the server, yes it is forwarded. On my computer I was told it didn't need to be forwarded. Again, the laptop has no issue using the same router and modem. If it was a post issue both my PC and laptop would be unable to connect.

In the PC I made sure that all firewalls (jic) had the remote desktop set to "allow".

Use your Public IP address and see if the port is forwarded by using the website below:
    Open Port Check Tool

    Do it from the Laptop

    If the company allows that.

Thank you again for the help. I used both the PC and the laptop on canyouseeme.org to run port 3389
In both cases the connection timed out with this error:

Error: I could not see your service on 98.238.137.70 on port (3389)
    Reason: Connection timed out

I assume that was the right port to check for remote desktop since it says right there. I also got the same error at other ports I checked, I am not sure what I can learn from this since still the laptop can connect and the PC can't.

By the way, I am managing to work by stealing my wife's laptop and using it to open the excel file we share as our checklist right now. So for the moment I can manage but it's far from ideal and I really would love to be able to use my PC exclusively.

By the way, this is on my home/office network so I am theoretically the administrator.

    Thank you again.

Was this issue of one PC not able to RDP while the laptop RDP works ever resolved? This is exactly my problem, only slight difference was the RDP on the PC use to work fine until a few months ago (no restore point available, my bad)...
