You do not have to use zyxel. You can use Linksys with century links ISP details you know.
Why have you used two routers wireless strength issue or wired issue?
Cyber, when I was using Midco as my ISP, telco and, cable TV. I used the Linksys with Midco for internet connection. I switched to CenturyLink (for various reasons) and now I have a DSL connection.

After more hours than I would to think of, between CenturyLink suppor-less and my own configuration testing, trying to get the Zyxel to see the desktop files and one of my printers I am at my wits end. To reiterate: the Zyxel router without any internet connection, just functioning as a router will not allow me to see the files on my desktop, or see the printer connected to my desktop.

If I just use the Linksys router without an internet connection I can access the DT files and printers from the LT. The DT can see the printers and access files on the LT.

The Zyxel tech suggested that I use the linksys and bridge from the C1000z. He could not figure out why it would not work. One more note the C1000z from Centurylink has been customized by CenturyLink to put their own mark on it. The Linksys on the other hand basically says here I am what do you want to do. It does not care who the ISP is, as long as it is cable, you just configure. We had the routers connected port to port.

I purchased the @ease extortion product so I can talk with someone other than a first level tech that reads from a script and probably cannot find his rear end with both hands behind his back.

It doesn't matter who is your ISP they are not the issue.

Answer the questions please.

From your diagram your zyxel is bridged or connected to your Linksys.

That is the issue. How is it bridged you know that right?

Understand you are angry.

Cyber, my son (BA in IT) and I (44 years in IT, retired) worked on the bridging for a couple of hours+. That was 2 weeks ago. We followed the instructions sent by ZyXel. The instructions were for a PK-5001z. The tech noted there were some differences but they were not dramatic. They do not have instructions for the C1000z We did connect port to port. The diagrams are only of the Zyxel. The Linksys is not involved. The diagram is the way the 'network and sharing center' see the connections. We are about to leave on holiday and i will pick this up on Monday.
Many thanks for all your input. We will see what happens on Tuesday when I call CenturyLink.

The Linksys is not involved.
Ask Centurylink whether they support bridging they may not.
Update the firmware on Zyxel with involvement from century link which supplied the router.
Change the router.

Best of luck.

Cyber, you may be right about supporting bridging. Although, I cannot get a direct answer from CL support. I finally paid the extortion fee for @ease and it is on a monthly basis and I cancel anytime. I called support and reminded them that I had @ease. That helped and after explaining what I was trying to do and telling them that I could this with the Linksys they folded and sent me a new modem/router/switch. One interesting note is that you cannot be transferred to the next level of support! I should say I cannot be transferred to the next level of support!
This time they sent me a Actiontec C1000a (interesting model numbers). It performed the same way. Also, interestingly is that which ever manufacture they all have CL's firmware installed so they all look the same. I can understand why. But for those who do not want a vanilla system you cannot see many of the options available on a standard modem. for instance I can not see the VPI and VCI variables, which determine the connectivity (guess) although, with some keystrokes you can find them through Google/Bing, etc. If you save the configuration and scan it for 'VPE or VCI' you can see the variables.
The last item is that when in inadvertently joined a home group and shared with the home group I could see the files on the computers. This did not work when I was using the Linksys. That is not a topic for this thread but I will research the anomaly (if you stop learning you are dead).
I have been investigating DSL modems/routers/switches trying to find one with ADSL2, dual band and, guest hosting. I read a lot or reviews and it makes the selection a challenge. Either manufactures have terrible QC or some of the users have learning disabilities. I am not the guru that's is why I am on the forum to learn but I do have a background in IT. I am leaning to the QC side because of the comments. Check out Amazon.
After I select a modem(s) I will call their support desk and see what they have to say.

When I have reached a acceptable solution I will report back. Meanwhile I will entertain recommendations.
