Weird Internet Problem?

Hey guys I have a weird internet problem here. I just upgraded to Windows 7 last night. I didn't do a clean install, so I upgraded from Vista. The problem I'm having is that basically my internet is messed up....

If I try to use Internet Explorer, it says "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage".
If I try to use Firefox, nothing happens, it just tries to load for a few seconds and the tab remains as "untitled".
If I try to use Safari, it says "You are not connected to the Internet".
If I try to use Opera, it says "Could not locate remote server".

Google Chrome seems to work fine, same with windows live messenger. I could also grab updates from windows update. Another weird thing is that Internet Explorer 64-bit seems to work fine as well. But anything other than these, it won't connect to the internet.

I do not have windows firewall turned on, so I don't know if there's anything that's blocking the connection...

Anyone have any ideas on what's going on? It's driving me insane here

Hi kyubiboi,

Do you have any Antivirus program installed? If so , what is it, and have you tried temp. disabling it to see if it makes a difference?

Have you disabled your network adapter, and re enabled? Tried rebooting your router, and computer?

Tried flushing out your DNS cache?
command prompt - ipconfig/flushdns - enter

You might even run a full scan with a Antivirus program or something like Malwarebytes to rule out any malware infection. Could also run the network troubleshooter and see if that says anything relevant.

Hi Airbot,

I don't have any Antivirus programs installed.

I've tried disabling and re-enabling my network adapter, but it didn't do anything. I've rebooted my computer tons of times and still the problem still exists.

I just tried flushing out my DNS cache, but it didn't do anything either

I just tried this too. It said

"Ping request could not find host msn.com. Please check the name and try again.

IN order for the ping to possibly work you need to do the ipconfig /flush and ipconfig /renew that Airbot suggested

then do the ping

thanks

Unfortunately I have to go to school now, so I'll try your suggestion when I get back. Thanks

Another thought is to be absolutely sure you have the latest network drivers for your card.

When I first installed Windows 7 RC about a month ago I experienced similar symptoms as you did. Updating the network driver to the absolute latest resolved this problem for me.

edit: yet another thought: Any chance the proxy settings were enabled in both FF and IE?
