ISP cause my modem to become faulty?

    Hi,

My isp is telecom and i have a netcomm router.

on a random day internet suddenly stopped working and i checked with my isp that they are having issues. Dont know what exactly. when the services status was back up and running my internet still didnt work. i had the dsl light on but internet light wasnt coming on.

i rang telcom and they said that sometimes my settings could reset or something and i did a hard reset and configured back to normal but it still wouldnt work.

telecom advised me to contact netcomm and try to configure the settings but they said its either the phone line or i need a new modem.

the thing is telecom said their phone line is perfectly fine and said its the problem with the modem which i think is true.

my question is can the modem randomly become fauly all of a sudden and stop working? Who is at fault here? Can telecom's faulty server or something cause my modem to become unusable?

Hi there .. Yes any Hardware can become faulty .. Have had a Router which became faulty just after a months useage .. The Earth net would work but not the Wireless .. Resetting your Modem can not do it any harm .. As you own the Modem you are responsible for it .. I was lucky as my Router came with my ISP so they replaced it .. How old is your Modem and what is the Model Number ? ...

Yes you're modem could be faulty however if we are talking a traditional modem in the sense that it modulates and de-modulates to different physical media then the only thing that could cause it to break would be an electrical surge of some sort.

If it is a router, which I'm assuming you have one as well? Then it could be a configuration issue and if it was provided by the ISP then the default configurations should work unless some service on the ISP side is not working...

SIP is a session initiator protocol for VoIP? It hasn't anything to do with internet IP data traffic...
