Internet Connectivity, issues hard to diagnose.

    Dear all,

I have trouble connecting to the internet reliably or quickly. The symptom manifests as extremely slow internet that often cuts out altogether for minutes at a time. I have checked, and it my laptop specifically (a dv7) suffers from this, as all other computers in the house connect reliably. This internet stoppage occurs whether I use Chrome, or Firefox.

When trying to see the explanation the browser gives for the failure, or diagnose from the Wireless Netowrk Connection Status it says everything between SSL connect error, my in ability to connect to the router, Gateway errors that have to be resolved by fixing the DNS, and so on.

I initially tried to focus on the possibility of fixing an SSL error, by downloading missing root certificates and checking the time sync, but the former has not helped, and the latter is not out of sync.

I really need help on this, because the connection errors are just so random, and my connection speed so slow that it's starting to affect everything. Not just gaming, but browsing, and even my work. The only problem is I just can't tell what the source of the trouble is. I just know it's my laptop. I wish I could give more information, but the connection failure is never permanent enough.

I know this may sound kinda simple; but have you tried a ipconfig /release then once it releases the adapter; do a ipconfig /renew? doing that may solve the issue. if that does not work; i would try completely uninstalling the adapter/card etc you use to connect from windows; reboot; then let windows re-detect it and reinstall it hopefully. Also; just for the sake of it; i would try power cycling the router by completely unplugging the power cord from the router; wait about a minute or so; then plug it back in and let it reboot and see if that helps any. Try these steps and see if anything works for ya. If not post back and we can go from there.

I've done the ipconfig trick as you suggested. Might have worked, but I'm going to test over the day first to see how well the solution has performed.

After a day of testing, I believe the ipconfig trick has helped stabilize the net speed. The internet's more responsive. On the other hand, underlying symptoms still occur, though not as regularly. On occasion the SSL connect error (or "page is not available") and a sudden stop in receiving data still occurs. The situation is still largely improved, all the same.

Had catastrophic slowdown this morning, for 4 or 5 hours. Loading speed for everything was extremely slow. Upgraded the software and drivers for my Intel Wireless, to no effect. Currently still very slow, to the point of non moving.

I did some diagnostics, and found something curious that the router told me:

Whatever configuration is wrong with my laptop, it's constantly sending DHCP Requests to the router, literally every few minutes, which is why my internet connection keeps waffling. Does anyone know the origin of this situation?
