How can i share between Win7 and Win8.1 ?

So i have a laptop with Win7 and a new pc with Win8.1 both hooked to a router and im trying to share a drive between them and i keep getting the dreaded "Enter network credentials" prompt so...

Can someone share a simple list of things to do to share things...i dont care about security cause all the hardware is my own personal stuff?

Hello Americanu,

If you like, create a homegroup on the Windows 8.1 computer, then join the homegroup on the Windows 7 computer.
Homegroup - Create in Windows 8

Homegroup - Add Computer or Join
Afterwards, include the drive you want to share in a library of your choice on the computer that the drive is connected to.
Library - Include a Folder

Library - Add a Folder to in Windows 8
When finished, you should be able to share the drive through the library in Homegroup.

Depending on your needs, using homegroup would make it easier to share files.

Confusion over going from Win7 to Win8/8.1
I use Win 7 on a desktop PC, and recently purchased 8.1 as the way to move up to Win 8.1. I have not yet attempted to install it. In a non-Windows forum, I asked about this, and found that to get to 8.1 I would either need to replace 7 entirely with a 8.1 install, or save programs, Word, Office,...
