After installing win7 Ult security updates > problem with net connect

    Hi all,

Would some of you mind sharing how you deal with Win7 updates when there's a bunch of them?

For example, yesterday's MS update bunch included 8 updates, some without the need for a restart, some with. I usually select the updates I want, download them all, let them install and follow this with a single restart. After restarting, I noticed my PC would not connect to the net (a persistent red X between the Network and Internet icons in Network and Sharing Center).

I imaged my system back to a pre-update state and this time I loaded the updates one at a time, restarting when asked. This took longer but my internet connection was good throughout.

What's your way of handling updating? Any tips much appreciated.

    Thanks.

I'd accept all Important and Optional Windows Updates so you know your System is patched and drivers are current with what Win7 wants. The only ones I hide are Bingware.

Things have changed since XP days when we might have needed to second guess Updates. You really only have Win7 if you have a fully patched system.

Updates problems are one in a million so if you're get unlucky use System Restore to a point before the batch that glitches. Then reinstall them singly until you find the culprit, tho usually they will then install correctly.

Thanks gregrocker. It might have been a oneinamillion glitch that I lost my net connection after installing all at once. I'll keep an eye on it next time there is a batch of updates/.
