    Odd internet issue with games.

    Hi all.

I have this really odd issue which I can't seem to solve when gaming, I will give you an example:

Tonight me and a friend wanted to play Borderlands online (Co-op game with only the two of us), he creates a server, I join it and it's totally unplayable, I hear my ventrilo in the background disconnect and it seems as though my internet hits the fan whilst I am in the game.

So I tried to create a server, everything goes fine my end but now he is lagging very bad like I was and once again I hear my ventrilo disconnect in the background (Yes I have made sure Ventrilo is not the cause by loading without it). Now this is the weird part, when I tab out, his lag completely disappears, my Ventrilo automatically reconnects and he carries on playing with no hiccups, as soon as I tab back in its a lagfest for him again and my Ventrilo disconnects lol.

This seems to be happening not just on this game. I get it now and again on World of Warcraft where I'll log on, everyones doing the infamous 'moonwalk', followed by a disconnect, and I'll get this for ages then it will magically work again at some point (usually hours after). I get it on other games too but I think you get the picture.

Windows Update is set to never check but I manually check for updates daily anyway.

Furthermore this install is less than a week old and I'm very strict about what gets installed on my system so I have virtually no background apps at all apart from the bog standard W7 stuff.

I hope someone can assist with this problem and I would very much appriciate it.

    Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the club. Win7 Woes

My install is an upgrade from Vista, which complicates things. Yours is a strange issue. When your internet hits the fan and you alt-tab out, is your network icon (in the system tray) showing a yellow warning symbol? Does this happen at all outside of games?

I've noticed mine occurs fairly randomly. I could be playing WoW or just sitting on IRC and surfing pages.. bam, internet drops out. Heavy downloads seem to perform a bit better, but those slow down everything else anyway.

I have the same problem only with Borderlands. When I open it, it will disconnect my internet completely and when I alt-tab or close it my net comes back. My network icon does come up with the yellow warning symbol also. Post here if ya ever find a fix please
