| Windows 7: Default gateway is not available |

Default gateway is not available I am using an Acer Aspire One netbook running Windows 7 Starter--for now; I plan to uprade--and an Atheros AR5B93 wireless card. Unfortunately, I am frequently unable to to access the internet. When Windows executes an automated repair, it reports that the "default gateway is not available." It resets the network card, but that only fixes the problem for a very short time, sometimes only a matter of seconds. How can I remedy this problem on a more permanent basis? Thanks in advance. | My System Specs |

Unfortunately, that does not help. I am still unable to stay connected. The only difference is that Windows now reports that the problem is that DHCP is not enabled. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Acer Aspire One OS Windows 7 Starter CPU Intel Atom N280 Memory 1GB |

That's problem.
ip address = same as router ip config page shown in the manual. (typically 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1) Change last part only for ip address.
subnet mask = 255.255.255.0
default gateway = same as router ip config page in the manual
preferred dns server = same as router ip config in the manual
Here is a theoretical example:
ip address = 192.168.0.75
subnet mask = 255.255.255.0
default gateway = 192.168.0.1
Preferred dns server = 192.168.0.1 | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number self built OS 7600.20510 x86 CPU P4 550 3.4 GHz HT running at 3.5 GHz Motherboard MSI PM8M3-V (MS-7211 v1.x) Micro-ATX mainboard Memory OCZ 2 GB(2x1GB) DDR400mHz running @ 414 mHz Graphics Card HIS Radeon HD 3850 IceQ 3 Turbo HDMI Dual DL-DVI AGP Sound Card MOTU Traveler firewire studio interface 192 kHz 24 bit Monitor(s) Displays 22" widescreen Acer X223W LCD, 17" Compaq P75 CRT Screen Resolution 1680x1050 and 1280x1024 Keyboard Logitch Classical Keyboard 200 Mouse Logitech Mediaplay cordless PSU 350W generic Case Cybertronpc, it glows blue Cooling stock cpu fan, Ice-Q 3 gpu and system, many case fans Hard Drives SATA I x2 WD, 400 GB and 120 GB, SATA 2 WD Caviar Black 1 TB Internet Speed 1792/448 kbits/sec Other Info SATA II PCI fake RAID adapter, 1 GB Readyboost, original ATI Remote Wonder (even works with WMC perfectly), Logitech Rumblepad 2 game controller x2 |

I would try and let your system auto detect your LAN setting first. It usually does a good job and you needn't do anything.
But if you need to go static ip, let see your what you have from ipconfig /all? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Lenovo ThinkPad T60 OS Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit CPU GenuineIntel Intel(R) Core(TM) DuoCore T2400 @ 1.83GHz Motherboard Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) Memory 2.00 GB Graphics Card Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Sound Card SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio Monitor(s) Displays ThinkPad Display Screen Resolution 1400x1050 Keyboard Standard Keyboard Mouse HID-compliant Mouse Hard Drives 100Gb SATA Internet Speed Cable Broadband - 54Mbps Other Info Intel(R) PRO/1000 PL Network Connection

Well, there is an issue there. The network I'm connecting to is a campus wireless network, not a personal one. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Acer Aspire One OS Windows 7 Starter CPU Intel Atom N280 Memory 1GB |

What is your ipconfig /all?
If you are wanting just to plug in your default gateway, then that depends on your network, usually and theoretically it's the first node (IP) in your immediate network. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Lenovo ThinkPad T60 OS Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit CPU GenuineIntel Intel(R) Core(TM) DuoCore T2400 @ 1.83GHz Motherboard Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) Memory 2.00 GB Graphics Card Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Sound Card SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio Monitor(s) Displays ThinkPad Display Screen Resolution 1400x1050 Keyboard Standard Keyboard Mouse HID-compliant Mouse Hard Drives 100Gb SATA Internet Speed Cable Broadband - 54Mbps Other Info Intel(R) PRO/1000 PL Network Connection
