Cannot connect to a printer.

Just got through talking to my Printer mfg, for 1 hour, trying to get my printer to work wireless. Connection fails. We disabled the firewall and virus program, installed the printer and software again. The printer connects to my XP desktop wireless and the 7 laptop with a USB cable. The tech said it's something to do with windows that's not allowing it to connect. Can anyone help? It's a Canon Pixma MG3522 going to an older Toshiba laptop. Thanks in advance.

Have you 'shared' the printer? Also you may need to give permission to allow use within both your Anti-virus and firewall.

Printer connection.

Yes it's shared and I turned the firewall and virus protection off when I downloaded the software and tried to connect to the printer. The printer and the computer aren't communicating!!!! The Canon tech said it has something to do with windows 7.

Is your printer sharing from the xp machine to the windows 7 machine or is it on the network it self and both are using it as a stand alone unit?

Both are using it as a stand alone unit. Not on a network.

Ok so let me see if I get this right. You have gone into the printers configuration and ip address with a normal browser to then setup wifi printing, and now xp will print to it but windows 7 will only print to it off usb. Not that you have hardwired it to your network and then just find it over the network. The way you describe it sounds like your doing both. Either way what step do you take to add the printer in windows 7 and does it make a difference if you try to print to it in "safe mode with networking" .

Edit: scratch the first part didn't notice you had no normal Lan port on that printer. Then what I would do is on the windows 7 side remove the printer if it exists then install the software only and in the software it should say to find the printer and set it up for wireless and you should not need to use the usb cable during this if it's what I'm thinking of, as that would normally install it for usb only.

Don't know if this will help but just went 2 days working on this with a wired laser printer through a switch and router. Printer was not able to seen by the router or when trying to install printer or print to it. What I ended up doing was reset the printer BACK to factory settings. Then it was able to be seen by the install program. All was good after that. There was even activity on the switch(flashing light).
