Sharing a folder with User on Second Win 7 PC

    The scenario:
I have 2 (soon to be 3) Win 7 machines in my home network. I want this main machine (YELLOW-TOWER) to store "shared" files for the whole family. It's always on and available. Folders are on a secondary, Data drive D:. Example: D:\Family Photos; D:\Family Documents etc.

    Problem:
I want to be able to grant myself and my wife, Read/Write access to those shared directories (on YELLOW-TOWER) from our laptops (FAM-LAPTOP & NIC-MINI). I also want certain directories for she and I to have full access but no access for the kids.

    Status:
I have joined all the accounts to the homegroup and have read access sharing working.

From what I've seen in forums, this seems realistic but I'm getting something wrong and am going around in circles at this point. Help Please!!!

For those certain directories, you might need to add a separate user onto the YELLOWTOWER with its own pw, and grant only that user to said directories. Then map those directories to the laptop with the aforementioned user credentials.

Was thinking along these lines. To simplify things for learning purposes, I created a new user "test" on both machines with a password.
I created a folder D:\TESTSHARE on YELLOW. I've tried everyway of sharing it I can find with LAPTOP with no success.

I think there is something I don't understand regarding "map those directories to the laptop with the aforementioned user credentials."

What exactly would be the sharing steps I should be doing? If I could see it once I could make it work. Thanks

I am so close. I turned off all homegroups and low and behold when I tried to connect to YELLOW, I finaly got a network login. Only, I must have remote connected from YELLOW to LAPTOP before as Guest because it keeps remembering me automatically and I'm trying to undo that before proceeding farther.

Plan is to set up MOM and DAD accounts on both machines, give them Full R/W acces to the particular directories. Then create a Homegroup and add all users. That should give all Homegroup Read, and MOM & DAD R/W. At least that's the plan.
