Yeah that is correct Ken they are not very expensive either ....
Hi Max
Things don't seem so bad today.
Got my PC up and running using PS2 ports as you recommended. Good news is that processor, memory and hard disk appear to be OK. I have four USB out of the original nine working. I seem to have lost the sound output. When I run the audio trouble shooter it reports no audio device is plugged in. I have tried various devices but get the same report. When I click on the speaker icon (bottom right) audio output is indicated.
The worst scenario seems to be a new mother board. What do you think?
Hey Ken ... You are right things could be a lot worse ... Looks as if the Audio has been damaged .. You could easy get a new Sound Card ... Or wait till you are better off and get a new Motherboard ....
Certainly a lot better than I feared.
The sound card may be a short term solution but I am tempted to go the mother board route. If I have done research correctly I recon I could get a replacement mother board for about £90. My PC skills are not up to swapping the processor and so would have to get a local PC engineer to install. I have a hard disk and light scribe DVD burner from my last system which I have wanted to fit and so could get that done at the same time plus hopefully get WIFI speed issue sorted. I have a budget price of £150 in mind. This assumes no additional hardware cost. What do you think?
You are spot on about the price Ken ... I think you should be able to manage the Install yourself Ken ... It is not really that difficult with the CPU and you would have the advantage of Installing it before you need to Install the Motherboard ... But of course if you not comfortable with that its better to pay to get it done ... At the end of the day would be worth it to get a good working System ...
Thanks Max you have convinced me.
Hard to believe I did that to my beloved system. I have been in a state of mourning ever since. It would be great to have it back in full working order. Money well spent.
Every one can make mistakes Ken ... As log as one learn from them that is the important thing ..
Learnt my lesson. Ultra careful now Max.
I have a recommended PC engineer and will contact him Monday.
I will keep you posted.
Hi all
I have now completed my house move and everything is looking much better.
Chillblast unbelievably replaced my mother board and case. I had to pay for the new case but everything else was free of charge. Wonderful company my next PC is definitely going to be from Chillblast.
The broadband engineer (Steve the land line man) turned out to useless and only wanted to move my master socket a few meters from the hall to the lounge for something like £240. He informed me I did not need an Ethernet connection and the problem with my wireless connection to the conservatory was going to solved using expensive router equipment. I eventually gave up on him and ran an Ethernet cable myself. Wonderful I get 36 meg to the conservatory.
Every thin in the garden looks rosy now. Thank you all so much for help and support.
Very best regards Ken.
