Intel Wifi Link 5100 Wireless issue with Win7 install

Hey guys firstly thanks for taking the time to read my thread.

Recently completed a custom install of Windows 7 64bit version. Have installed all the Windows updates and drivers from HP.

My wireless adapter will connect to my network with static ip address set manually but the 'automatically detect settings' option will not work and I receive the message "Unidentified Network" in the task bar.

Any help will be appreciated.

_______

**SOLUTION**

1. Reset router and apply settings again. (**Remember to write down any user names and passwords used for your ISP**)

2. Use WPA2-PSK security rather than WPA

3. Connect to network using network password

When I turn on the auto settings I see it comes up with some wacky ip address that isn't even in the range of my network

Can you do a screenshot of where you see the "Unidentified Network" in the "task bar". I'm not sure what this is.

Also can you screen shot what is listed in

ControlPanel > Network and Sharing Center> (click on "Change adapter Setting"

Do you have Network Discovery turned on?

Yes for both Home and Public networks.

This could be a setup from the router wireless setting, the fact that Windows 7 is unabled to fully identify the network (could be due to missing parameters) and can't connect to get out to your ISP.

Do you have access to your router's control panel?

Yep sure do. Havn't noticed anything dodgy there but what do you have in mind?

I was able to test connect to one of our wireless AP at work and this particular AP did not have any security enabled (no password needed). I tried connecting to it and get the same unidentifying network as you. Can you detail what setting you have for your wireless settings in your router? You do have WPA or WEP enabled right?

Yup I have WPA enabled.
Checked that passcode. As I say I can connect with a static IP.

If I change to automatic I get a IP address as explained here.
i have a 169.254.x.x ip address. c

Don't know if that helps!
