    share problem win7 to xp.

    Hi,

I'm trying to set up a share between my new win7 computer and an older xp laptop.

I have followed many guides but still can't get it set up correctly.

My win7 computer can access my laptops share but my laptop (xp) can only see my win7 computer I can't actually see any of the files.

All i can see is the folders that i have shared, when i try to click on them i get an access denied message.

I have homegroups switched off and i'm running norton internet security on both computers.

    any help would be appreciated!

Check your Windows 7 advanced sharing settings. If you have password sharing enabled, then you'll need to create identical users on both machines, with identical passwords. For example, each computer has john.doe with mypassword. This is for public folders only - by default, you can't share any files in a user's directory (My Documents, My Pictures, etc).
