    Are all wifi modems equal?

    Config: 2x64 bit win7 desktop PCs + 1xwifi modem + ADSL2

So the PCs at home go through the wifi modem to access the net. (No gaming happens here.)

Need to go & buy a new modem as current one has died. Hence the question. So do i just go down to the shop & buy a 'cheapie' for basic internet usage, surfing + downloads. Honestly I see no diff. in a $50 modem to a more expensive one. Neither can make the net faster, no?

All i want is reliabilty to not breakdown 3 days out of warranty. So what a trustworthy brand name at the lower end of the market?

Hi when lightning took out my modem i went with a motorala they have different models to chooce from i got mine from a electronics store for around 60 dollars. that was years ago and still working good. not at home right now or i would give you a model number. but since it was years ago probably don't make that model any more any ways.

There are new ones with the new 802.11ac standard. But they are really only faster when you have a very fast line. Else, all the so called 'best routers' are expensive.. I went with a $40 Netgear router and that works perfectly. If that breaks down one day, I have not lost a fortune.
