XP VM can't access Network - Music streamer the culprit
I spent about 3 hours wondering why a VM XP machine I had suddenly could not access the LAN any more (could not access WORKGROUP).
It was only after I accedintally pulled the plug out on the server and then had to start the VM's manually again after a re-boot I noticed a very quick but fleeting message "IP address conflict".
This puzzled me as there wasn't a "computer" on the LAN -- until I remembered the Music server (Logitech Squeezebox).
So I shut the music server and the wireless facility on the router, re-booted all the VM's and the server, and then finally started wireless again and the squeezebox streamer.
Everything fine again --wasn't the poor old XP machine's fault.
So if you suddenly get a machine that can't access other machines in your LAN check to see if you've got anything like network printers, NAS drives or music / video streamers like Squuezebox.
