Cannot get my computer on the netwoto switch back from Public to Home

Have lost access to my network printer and when I check the network it appears that my desktop computer is set to public and not home. I don't know how this happened but recently I had an internet dropout and my son has been using a thing called Hamachi. so wether it happened via one of those I don't know. Anyway I have tried going in to the network and sharing centre but neither the network or the computer show up. I have a thing that says you are currently not connected to any networks" and when I try to connect to a network I get a little box that pops up in bottom right hand corner telling me that I am not connected and there are no connections available. Refreshing that little box doesn't help, setting up a new connection or network opens a blank box telling me I have to wait 90 seconds for the network device to appear but it never does. When I try the homegroup option it tells me that "this computer can't connect to a home group and there is an error message saying To create or koin a homegroup your computers network location must be set to home. When I map the network I get my PC linked to a switch linked to my router and a broken internet connection. Called Microsoft help who offered to let me join some club and they would happily charge me $120 dollars to see what they could do. Am at my wits end as all I want to do is change the computer back to a home network so I can access all my printer and files they way I was less than 24 hrs ago

Any help greatly appreciated

Hamachi is afaik a VPN program (should create a tunnel, one end at your PC NIC, and the other end in remote server, so you wont be able to see anything in between).

If it is installed, then uninstall it, check task manager/services if it is there and end task/disable it.

See if you get back your settings.

Do this as well, run cmd
ipconfig -all
what's the IP address you get?
what is the network id of your LAN?

Hamachi allows split tunneling. When working properly, it should not block any other connections.

It is probably being used for gaming. In most cases, it is probably okay to uninstall it as a test. In my case, uninstalling Hamachi would cause me to lose my VPN connections to several computers that I service.

That said, the folks at LogMeIn have turned Hamachi into a crappy app that is taking more and more of my time just to keep it working. I'll probably replace it with a different VPN tool someday.

When you say allows split tunnelling, do you mean it can be configured optionally or is it the default behavior?

I don't think that Hamachi can be configured to block other network traffic. It is always a split tunnel. I have about a dozen Hamachi VPN tunnels connected right now. Each of the remote computers are isolated from each other... but I can connect to each one and to the internet as well as my local network.

In most cases (e.g. Cisco, Juniper Networks...), your description of a VPN connection blocking other traffic is correct. But Hamachi, Wippien and the like - were designed for individuals and not corporations.

Hamachi can confuse Windows networking. Uninstalling it does take it out of the equation. But, one could temporarily disable Hamachi's service and then disable Hamachi's virtual network adapter. That should be close enough to uninstalling Hamachi for most network troubleshooting.

Click on the left link in Network and Sharing that says Change Advanced Sharing Settings. Under the Private dropdown(the little arrow to the right) Turn on Network Discovery and auto setup for devices. A reboot should find the network and Windows should set current profile to Private.
