    Ndis.sys High Latency Issue


    Hi everyone!

    Recently out of the blue I started having weird sound pops and crackling and through a bit of Googling I found out that high latency is the problem.

    Using LatencyMon I noticed that ndis.sys and tcpip.sys are the main culprits. The issue gets worse the longer the system is running. Disabling network adapters or unplugging the Ethernet cable imminently fixes the issue. Here are the fixes I have attempted so far:

    - Installed latest Windows updates
    - Installed latest sound drivers
    - Installed latest graphics drivers
    - Installed latest network adapter drivers
    - Bought a new network adapter (TP-Link TG-3468) - did not improve anything
    - Did multiple scans for malware with no results
    - Cleaned and repaired registry keys
    - Changed Power Options to High Performance
    - Turned Energy Efficient Ethernet off
    - Tried disabling Antivirus and Firewall

    So far nothing has improved the situation. Here's the report from LatencyMon:

    Can you run a system restore point from before this started happening?

    photoshop.exe has a lot of page faults. Not sure if related, but if it's trying to update all the time that could be it.

    What anti-virus are you using? Avast by chance? If so, uninstall it once and try again. What firewall? Uninstall that and try again.

    Have a look at Autoruns and zip and upload the ARN file.

    Go to start and in search enter dxdiag. Any errors? Try the 64 bit version in there as well.

    Hi, thanks for replies! Unfortunately I don't have a restore point to go back to. The issue occurs even when the system is idle, the longer the PC is on the worse the issue gets.

    I only had Photoshop open at the time to paste the screenshots, but like I said it happens even when there are no programs are running.
    I am using ZoneAlarm Firewall and Antivirus. I tried disabling both of them but that did not help. I have used AVG Antivirus in the past but I've uninstalled it.

    No errors in dxdiag that I can see. I've attached the ARN file.

    Okay, try this once. Go into Autoruns under the Everything tab and in the search tab type in the word zone. Now disable everything related to Zone Alarm. After that reboot your computer and see if the problem persists.

    If the problem still exists, uninstall Zone Alarm and reboot.

    The issue could also be Photoshop and in order to verify that you'd need to uninstall that.

    Go to Control Panel, Device Manager, Sound and..............................

    Disable all the NVIDIA High Definition Audio entries.

    Uninstalling ZoneAlarm seems to have fixed the issue so far, hurray! I've run LatencyMon for about an hour and apart from a few random spikes it seems to stay below 150 most of the time.

    I'll keep an eye on it and see if the issue happens again. Thank you for your help, it's really appreciated!
