Please download and make bootable DVD/USB for Linux Mint MATE (or any other live Linux distro) and boot with it, no need to install. See if you can connect with it.

Do you have a Router? (I assume so since you said you have a LAN connection). You probably need to go into the Router setup and add your IP provider info.
Usually you get to the Router settings by putting the routers address in your windows browser (IE) address bar. The typical router addresses are 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.254 or 192.168.1.254
