    Public Location Question

I have ICS and I have file and printer sharing on a Win_7 to XP-SP3 network. The cable modem connection in Win_7 shows a home location and the LAN ethernet (no router) on Win_7 shows a public location. The LAN ethernet connection on XP-SP3 show it in a home location. One would think the LAN on Win_7 would show being in a home location. Nevertheless, the public location is not keeping me from getting what I want, everything is working. Still, I am wondering, is the public location normal for two computers directly wired for file and printer sharing and for ICS?

If there is no default gateway specified for the LAN then Windows will think it's public. If everything is working then it's not a problem :)

    Public Location Question

I understand. My suspicion is that I don't have the settings set exactly right. In my setup the LAN Host finds the gateway automatically. I don't any idea what the gateway entry could be. As you suggest, it's working so leave it. Thanks for your response.
