    Networking 7 and Vista

I'm having a problem with networking a new W7 laptop with a Vista workstation. The problem is with the W7 laptop. While I can access the W7 laptop from tne Vista workstation, I cannot access the V station from my laptop. It shows the complete network, but cannot access the work station, telling me that my modem is at fault, which is not true. Any ideas how I can persuade my Windows 7 Laptop to access the network which it shows, and access my workstation files?

Try mapping the shares manually. Open Computer (Windows Explorer) and go to where it shows drives, like C:, D: etc...

Then click on "Map network drive." For server, use the Vista machine's name.

Check the box to have it reconnect at logon, if you want that.

Please update your system specs - the link is in my signature.

Please post a screenshot of the error you receive on the Windows 7 machine.

Iyt merely tells me that my Livebox is experiencing connectivity difficulties - even though I have connection from the Vista machine to the W7, and from both machines to the Internet. This is getting to be infuriating. Maybe I have done, or not done, something when setting up the connection from the W7 machine, though the fact that the network works from the other end makes this fairly unlikely

Unfortunately, that's a different message than the message you described in your first post. A screen shot of the error would be much appreciated.

Not really. In my first message I said that the message was that my modem was at fault ( ie Livebox). It remains the same message, telling me to switch the Livebox off, wait for 10 secs, and put it on again. It obviously doesn't work!. There is also another peculiar thing. In the map of my Internet route it shows the Livebox as the link from pc to IN. However, in the NW map it does not recognize the link between thw 2 PCs, showing only a question mark labelled unknown as the link. Could be the problem is here. It is definitely in the W7 laptop, because of circumstances previously described
