Connection disconnecting when hosting any personal game/server.

Ive recently begun having this issue where my friend and I will host a personal server/game and we cannot connect to each other regardless of who hosts. Other people can connect to our personal game/servers just fine. But I cant join his or he cant join mine. I have tried port forwarding, Hamachi, Game Ranger, Tunggle... and we still cannot manage to join a game with one another. This is what has been happening. I host the game/server . He connects via my public IP. He joins but then disconnects a few seconds after. This happens to him as well. But if he or I host a game and invite someone else. they can join just fine. We just cant join in a self hosted game/server that that either one of us hosts.

We can play multiplayer games just fine as long as we are not I guess you can say hosting it personally?? But if its hosted by someone else it we can be in a same game. for example we can play battlefield 4 together because were playing on someone else's server. Or at least that s what i think.

I just dont understand whats going on. I havent changed anything that i know of in my router settings. besides port forwarding and i doubt my friend has either. It just recently started happening.

    other details
    Internet- Time warner
Connection- cable modem/router combo. Direct connection to modem.
    Modem model- technicolor TC8715D
    firewall/anitvirus- windows firewall/none

It's more than likely has to do with your NAT setting and its not open enough (at moderate or strict), do you see that setting anywhere?

I thought that might have been the issue. But im not sure i see anything for NAT in my router settings. I find it odd that its just me and my friend that cant connect to each other. but anyone else can connect to him or me. I have DMZ enabled. it was mentioned by someone that it might work. but still nothing. Heres a pic of my router settings and some games i port forwarded. [IMG][/IMG]

It is odd that only your friend and you have the issue and others can connect. What do you have under advanced options on that screen? Your friend might also have a closed nat now as well which would make same issue on their end so you both should check BTW.

I honestly think it might be my friends NAT might be strict or moderate but ive been wrong before ill have him check later on today... but For all i know it might be me lol. We did a test the other night. i had my gf connect to my server for a game called terraria via public IP. Ports were forwarded as well. And also had my firewall off for the sake of testing. She connected without a hitch. My friend also did the same and hosted and had my gf connect. she also connected to him without a any problems. Had him connect to me. No luck. I connected to him. nothing either.

The thing that strikes me at being even more odd is the fact that i do connect but for a few seconds and then im booted. For this game in particular when i am connecting it says "retrieving the game data...30%...60%... 80%" then it just stops downloading the data which is when I assume when I get booted. Heres the advanced tab. not much im afraid :/ [IMG][/IMG]

That is odd and with terrrarias behavior it almost seems like your isp is blocking traffic to his IP you might want to call them. I would also find out what isp your friend and gf use.

I could try calling them, how would I go about telling them about my issue? Never done this before which is why I ask. It frustrates me I just dont know why it just started happening recently. Also my friend and gf also have Time Warner ISP

You will want to ask for tech support and try to get a real person then explain you think you have a routing issue where you can not stay connected to a friends puplic ip and port for more than a few seconds and only this person has this issue with you. They will prob have to have you run a line test, you may as well let them as they wont talk to you otherwise and they might find something wrong with their node your on.

Do you have the same Combo modem/router as them? EDIT: and both of you should have DMZ disabled as you don't have your own DMZ server to use.
