internet explorer issues:cant load, cant find proxy, stopped working..

my daughter was given a laptop in updateing it and upgrading it loaded some viruses after 36 hrs of trying to get those removed figured out it was a root virus fond a way to download malwarebytes and malwarebytes rootkit ran root kit but malwarebytes itself would not run without crashing. i powered off for the night and when restarted this morning ie 11 would not load saying cannot connect...then said it couldnt find proxy and all the while not responding and stopped working messages. have tryed many sugested fixes for each of the issues but none have fixed anything not sure where to go from here because ie is the only browser installed..i have finally gotten malwarebytes to scan and have still got a number of viral issues could they be my culprit as to why i cant use internet explorer. any suggestions

turns out it was winsock(think thats how it was spelled) needed repairs...ran hitman pro in safe mode and it fixed it in seconds
