    Services not starting correctly

    My computer restarted itself after windows update had got some updates.

    When it restarted windows would not boot properly and it ran diagnostics, didn't come up with an answer and restarted again. After finally booting into windows taking waaaay longer than usual I had no network connection.

    I tried system restore to 2 days ago but it has not fixed the problem.

    When looking at services I noticed that the following were labelled as "starting" not "started" and the options to start/stop etc are greyed out;

    DHCP client
    System event notification service
    TCP/IP netbios helper

    I tried to restart into safe mode to see if I can mess with them there but f8 doesn't bring up the boot menu and windows just starts regardless.

    Appreciate any help here. Thanks in advance.

    Got into safe mode and changed the 3 non responsive services to manual and rebooted. Windows boots infinitely quicker. Try to manually start the services but I get "error 1053: service did not respond to the start or control requests in a timely fashion"
