    USB Port on Wireless Router/Modem

I have a Netgear Wireless Modem/Router. It has an USB port into which I have plugged several USB Flash Drives and USB Hard Drives but none of them show up on either of my two computers. The Netgear device works fine in all other respects.

Do I need to do something special to see a USB device plugged into the USB Port?

    Thank you.

That USB port is for connecting the router to your computer in stead of using Ethernet.

Not recommended. From my experience, Ethernet works better that USB.

I agree one hundred percent about Ethernet vs. USB. But here is copy-paste from the user manual of the router.

Chapter 1: Connecting to the Internet | 7
    Wireless Cable Gateway CG3000D-1CXNAS
    Gateway Rear Panel
    Figure 2 Gateway rear panel
The rear panel includes the following connections, viewed from left to right:
    • Four Gigabit-Ethernet LAN ports: Use these ports to connect local computers.
USB port: The USB port is a USB host and can be used for connecting a USB hard drive,
    flash drive, or printer.

    • Coaxial cable connector: Attach coaxial cable to the cable service provider’s connection.
    • Power: Power adapter input.
    • Power On/Off button.

I've never seen one that could do this. Very cool.
Is this a Cable modem? Looks like the only input is coax with 4 Ethernet ports.
The manual doesn't say anything about how to actually use the USB,

I'd say try posting in one of the Netgear forums: https://community.netgear.com/t5/WiF...e-wifi-routers
