Can't connect to network printer after replacing router.
My Home network:
Printer: HP Officejet 6500A Plus Network Printer.
Computer: 2 Dell Laptops (1 Running Win 7 Pro, 1 Running Win 8.1 Home)
1 Dell Optiplex 380 Desktop (Running Win 7 Pro)
Router: Pace D5001 (Modem & WiFi router in one)- NEW
SURFboard SB5120 (OLD)- Replaced
Belkin N Router (OLD)- Replaced.
Before the replacement, my set up was pretty simple. Modem to Belkin Router (Cat 5e cable running to AT&T Microcell, TP link 5 port switch). Switch running cable to Dell Tower, HP Printer, Apple TV, DVD Player).
With the SURFBoard Modem and Belkin Router I had no problem running the Printer as a Network Printer, Took advantage of the HP ePrint function. All 3 computer's had network Print drivers, no issues.
Modem kept dropping connection 3-4 times a day, Call service provider (cable company), Was told MAC address on file does not match their records (can't help me) Plus was told my model is old and will not be supported come Jan 1, 2016.
So I go in before they closed Monday night and get what they suggested, PACE cable modem and Router in one. Had no problem getting connected to the internet, Changing the Network name and setting the password. But can not for the life of me get my 3 computers to see the Network printer.
I deleted all drivers and reinstalled on the desktop, same result.
Shut the Windows firewall and the PACE modem firewall off, and still could not get to the printer.
Called the cable company (Service Electric), they sent me to the IP Provider (Pen tele data) and get "our network is running fine call HP for help".
I was able to do a work around by creating a home group on the desktop, sharing, plugging a USB cable from the tower to the printer, Joined the home group from my one laptop. Now, do I need to keep the Desktop running so the "sharing" stays enabled?
I checked the setting on the printer its self, It does see the web Gets IP address of: 192.168.2.4, Sub net: 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway: 192.168.2.1. It shows full MAC address.
I have work specific software on my laptop that I must use, so can't jump on the desktop to print.
I have not installed any software between the time of swapping the cable modems out.
Suggestions please.
Thank you in advance.
