Why i am frequently getting unidentified network in adopter settings

Hi,
the problem is whenever i run avast, it gives me vulnerability of my router and asked me to resolve. when i click the button, it will prompt me to upgrade the firmware of the router or reset and again configure modem.
This was annoying always. So i decided to use google dns server points. I have done the check on my laptop which resoves the issues of virus and other vulnerabilities found in the laptop.
then when i boot my computer on, i could not get the internet access, and my homegroup icon changed to public and yellow exclamation of no internet access. I tried troubleshooting, but no solution.
Then i went to the adapter settings, select the ipv4 properties , and instead of auto detect internet access, selected the use the following ips and enter the 3 lines including the gateway, as was once given by my service provider and entered the dns google access points. Then, when i click ok, the unidentified network changed to network and i could access the internet immediately.
How homegroup suddenly changed to public ?
Why i cannot get internet access, by selecting auto detect settings like any others . Pl give reasons and solutions to this problem.
