    unidentified network

    Hi,

Am having trouble with a netgear router and win7 tells me that I am conected to a unidentified network and does not allow me to log in to the router when using ethernet but on wifi I can do this no problem. The router is a WNDR4000.

    Any ideas???

I would check to make sure your Ethernet is getting a proper IP from the router, You can do this with the ipconfig command type or paste this into command prompt
    Code:
    ipconfig
and check to make sure the IPv4 IP's are in the same range,

    1. If they are not the same you should check the properties of the Ethernet card's IPv4 address. Step 3 of this tutorial
    2. If you have another computer check the Lan cable by switching the cable.
    3. Check to make sure the Lan cable is connected to the Lan side of the router and not the Wan side.

    Hi,

cheers for taking the time to help. I tried to get it to work this morning after leaving it unplug all sunday and it did work right off the bat but when I went to set it up to load dd-wrt firmware it did the same as before. To load dd-wrt it tells you to set a static ip at which point windows reports back unidentified network, not sure if the router is broke but I`m just going to return it to the seller as i got it from ebay.
