I have the same problem. It usually happens when Im trying to download a large file such as a video. I lose connection and it says Im connected with limited access even when I have full signal. I try to disconnect from the network disable the wireless adapter and it just freezes up. I cant even restart the computer or shutdown. I have to manually do a force shutdown by holding the power button. I have updated my network card to the latest driver.
BTW I have tried the reset internet protocol to no avail.

I have the Asus p5b-plus with the Atheros L1 gigabit adapter and I'm on Windows 7 64 bit. I was getting frequent disconnects when transferring large files over the network or downloading torrents. This required me to run through the troubleshooter each time to allow it to work temporarily again.

I fixed this by going into the driver properties panel> Advanced> Task Offload> Off. After it reset I was running fine.

This may help. If you go to control panel/Network and Internet/Network Connections and right click on your connection and choose 'properties'. Click on 'Configure' for your NIC and in the Power Management tab uncheck 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power'. Then go back to the Properties window and uncheck Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)

    Internet dropping

I had the same problem after upgrading to Windows 7 from Vista. I even had Comcast out to repair it, but it turned out it wasn't their problem. The problem was with the software upgrade causing a file to corrupt. I had to talk with Windows 7 tech support to solve the problem. It turned out the Winsock file was corrupted. The tech support gave me several commands that corrected the problem and Internet has been fine every since.

I can't say the command you posted is it because when I was on the phone with Windows 7 tech support the Comcast technician was sitting at my desk working on my system so I just handed over the phone to him and he worked with Windows 7 tech support. The Comcast tech didn't say what it was, but an email from Windows 7 tech support said my problem was a corrupted Winsock. That command of yours seems like it could work though.

windows 7 turns off on its own

AMD Athlon 2700. Computer actually turns off my itself when at idle for a couple of hours. I hit the start button and it boots up asking whether I want to start normally. This has now happened about five times in the last week. This hasn't happened before this week. I'm at a lost why it would do this.
