Using Old Router to Access Printer

problems...

I can't figure out how to use an old router to help my network access a printer.

Currently, I cannot connect my printer to the network... it sits too far away from the router.

I have read that I can use and old router and connect it to the printer, then, connect to that router wirelessly from the main network.


I have not found a set of instructions that will allow me to do this without 3rd party firmware... and of course, my old router is not compatible with tomato etc.

Any suggestions and or detailed instructions?

What's the router make and model number?

It's a Linksys BEFSR41 v2

Do research on the printer whether it can use as network or not.
Even if there is a network point, it do not meant the printer is ready to use network.

I read about my printer which has a network point, BUT mine is not network ready.
But on another variant, same model series, it is network ready.

What printer do you have?

My printer is a Dell 2155cn.
It is capable of wireless.. it just does not have the card.

I have previously had the printer wired to my router and setup as a network printer so everything could use the printer. Now, the printer is just too far away from the router.

The point of this post was if I could setup an old router as an access point, give it a static IP and point anything else in the house towards that IP to connect to the printer.

But.. the old routers I have are not compatible with tomato or dd-wrt.
(side note that doesn't matter: I am currently using tomato on my router that I use for everything else.)

As far as the BEFSR41 not having wireless capabilities... that my fault. I wasn't paying attention. I have another "wireless" router I can use. (ex. Linksys ea9200).

I haven't found anything else that explains how to do this without using a 3rd party firmware.

can you try the Cisco router it has the different router model.
eg some of the routers are listed below
