Can Anyone Recommend a Better Router?

I recently bought a new high-end cable modem to accommodate Time Warner's "extreme" level of service I have (which promises 50mbps down). It's the SURFboard SB6141 (white), and I'm very happy with it's performance. Not so much with my aging router I'm afraid.

I have a tried and true Linksys WRT54GL, which has been my tried and true go to for years (even one I've rebought a couple times when the old ones died). However, I think it's the reason my connection is being drug down.

I noticed I was not quite getting the full 50mbps down when I did a speed test online, topping out at around 46mpbs. So when I unplugged the Ethernet chord from the router and went direct to the computer, I jumped to a whopping 62mbps (leaping right over my supposed 50mb cap). The data transfer light also changed from a blink amber color to a blinking blue (another restriction of my router from the research I've done).

So long story short, what's the best brand/model of router I can get that would make for a good combo with my new SB6141? Any thoughts/suggestions?

    Thanks!

I have a Netgear WNDR4000 that I use with my SB6141. I have no complaints when it comes to internet speed.

What do you need gig ports and AC wireless?

Why didn`t you get an Arris all in one router, instead of just the modem ?

Then when or if you ran out of ports on that, you just add a switch. :)

But if you like Linksys then I`d stay with them.

I would stay away from the Arris modem/router/switch combo. I had two of them die.
What I use now is the SB6141 (black), the Netgear WNDR4000 router and a Netgear GS105 switch.
