If that's a multi function key you might need the hotkey utility to get it to work.
Not sure what a hotkey utility is. Had this laptop for maybe six years and I don't recall ever using this switch.

Hotkey on my ASUS is [Fn+F2]
If you have an actual physical slider/ switch then it's not the same thing. Hotkay utility is a driver that allows multi function keys to work. The windows generic keyboard driver will not allow multi function keys to work.

According to some Googling results, hotkey utilities are available only for 64 bit OS, and in any case seem to be bundled in scary "Help Desk Software" packages. ??

I'm talking about drivers from ASUS website. On my machine I need the hotkey utility (driver) in order to switch on wireless. Maybe you need Wireless Switch utility. You need the model number of your laptop.

Model number? That's not the same as the processor then? I don't see model number in the My Computer info. There is a branding on the machine that says Eee PC.

I'm not seeing anything like that window on Asus' site. Oddly, Asus has an app you install to search your drivers and see which need updating. Did that just now. Have to pay to download the two drivers the app need.

So how are you getting the correct drivers if you don't know the model number.

Open an elevated command prompt then type:

wmic csproduct get name

Press Enter and it should display the model number.

Then search the ASUS Support site for your model and see which drivers are listed.

Found the model number as a result of the app scan, it's 1016P. Tried duplicating your URL but with my model number. No joy.

Driver Navigator the app is called. $30 to download the recommended drivers.

Hi,
Most manufactures add a tag with a snid # so people can easily search their website for the exact machine for drivers...
You don't have one anywhere = battery compartment or on the bottom of the machine ?
