Reinstalled Win7 took out my wireless - Asus Teck laptop

I have noticed this is common and ai have reviewed at least two posts here related to this. Neither have helped, one simply being a link to an Intel diagnostic program.

Here's what I have done and observed:

- A steadily degrading function prompted me to reinstall preexisting Win7.
- A LAN cable plugged in works. Full Internet. Proved with a download. But wireless never even shows in tray.
- A yellow caution mark resides next to Network Controller in Device Manager. (And another next to Video Controller).
- After downloading every possible related driver from the Asus site and going through the Update Driver routine, rebooting, etc., no change.
- After pointing Update Driver to my Win7 CD, no joy. Unlike Win XP, apparently Win7 does not carry drivers.
- There is a switch on the top of the laptop that has a wireless signal printed next to it. Clicking the switch does nothing.

System configuration (as far as I know it):
Asus Tek computer laptop
CPU N455 1.66 GHz
OS is Win7 Pro 32 bit service pack 1

Sure could use some advice. Thanks!

Hi TMB,
Different lappy's = different wireless adapters,
need to know the device manager details, the flagged ones.
device manger >> properties >> details >> hardware ids.
post the pci/ven details

Thanks, torchwood. Flags? One caution symbol (yellow triangle with exclamation mark) on Network Controller and another on Video Controller.

Device Manager/Network Controller/Properties/Details/Hardware Ids =

Downloaded and extracted the Dell/Broadcom driver you linked/referred me to. No joy. Won't install. Here is the error message:

"Setup Error:
No compatible hardware found. The software you are attempting to install is not supported on this system. The software will not be installed."

Sounds like the wrong driver to me. Any ideas?

By the way, my OS is indeed 32 bit. I chose it so I could run legacy apps. As for choosing 32 bit, the executable I dowloadrd using the link provided never gave me an option for choosing 32 or 64 bit,

Ran into the same problem myself some time ago. Downloading and installing drivers for the ASUS website didn't fix it. Resorted to installing the correct driver by looking for the driver in the backup I made on an external drive before I reinstalled Windows.

If that's a multi function key you might need the hotkey utility to get it to work.

Appreciate that insight, Callender, re the backup. Unfortunately, I didn't do one. Not under a backuo routine anyway, just individual manual backups of wanted files.
