Weird RDP behavior after device change

Hi guys,

I replaced a win7 laptop with a win10 laptop, the computer name changed, but I kept the same IP on the new machine as the old laptop had.

Now when I try and RDP to the new laptop via the IP address, I get an access denied message on a win7 screen (the win 7 logo is down the bottom).

If I try and RDP from a laptop that had never previously connected to the old laptop, it works correctly.

During the testing, the old laptop was powered off and the dhcp lease has long expired.

I found a way to remove cached certificates from the registry, so I did that, and when I tried to rdp to the new win10 machine, I was prompted to trust the certificate with the hostname of the old laptop!

Any ideas on what is wrong? I am posting in seven forums since the machine I am trying to connect from is win7, I don't believe the issue is on the new laptop.
