When, why, and to what benefit would I want to "Map a Network Drive" ?

It's a disk or folder on another PC normally on the local network but can be anywhere in the world so you can backup files or share files Google drive is a network drive

As was said by Samuria, it's a drive that's located on another computer somewhere "out there" that can be used by your computer as another drive. A network drive would be accessed with the format of \\ServerName\Sharename. The reason you would want to "Map a network drive" would be to create a shortcut to that drive by assigning a drive letter to it so you can access it as Z: (for instance) instead of \\ServerName\ShareName.

Thanks for answering; now it begins to make sense.

With our low monthly allowance DISH internet, I bet having a network drive anywhere besides here at the house would eat up our allotment quick.
