My laptop is downloading from somewhere! ... Yeah, My laptop is downloading from somewhere.. and I don't like it..
I can tell because, I have a wireless light that flashes.. and when it flashes really fast, it means it's downloading.. but I really don't have anything that I am downloading.. It's just doing it on it's own and I'm sure I haven't got any program doing it.. It happens at random times & goes on for at least 20 minutes, sometimes longer
Is there any program I can download where I can stop my network card from downloading from a certain IP address or place.. like disable it from downloading from anywhere..?

First Windows 7 has many tasks, which it performs on its own, the primary one is indexing. It also makes image copies, system copies on a regular basis. It scans for errors, and the AV may also scan and download. Find out what is happening. You can check task manager for scheduled activity. You can also go to services to see what is scheduled. If there is nothing, a good firewall will be sure to help. Check for virus. Finally secure your network, by making it password protected. You can check help for information there. Good luck. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell XPS 420 OS Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, clean install, upgrade disc CPU Intel Core2 processsor Q8200(2.33Ghz 1333FSB) Quad Core Tech Motherboard Dell Memory 6 gb Graphics Card ATI Radeon 256MB HD3650 Sound Card Intergrated 7.1 Channel Audio Monitor(s) Displays Dell SP2009W 20" Keyboard Dell USB Keyboard Mouse Dell Premium Optical USB Cooling Fan Hard Drives 640 GB Serial ATA Hard drive Internet Speed DSL 2.85 |

you can use TCPview TCPView for Windows to check first..
or if you want the CL version you can use netstat to find out what is connecting to where....
there are many things that could be going on
this can also be a great time do manual scans for malware just in case some got in... | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Tx2500z Tablet Pc/Homemade Server OS Windows 7 Ult x64(x2), HomePrem x32(x4), Server 08 (+VM), 08 R2 (VM) , SuSe 11.2 (VM), XP 32 (VM) CPU Turion X2 ultra (oh well came with laptop)/P4 @3.2 (yes P4) Motherboard IDK HP Motherboard / Intel DG965SS Memory OCZ Dual Channel 4GB kit/ 1gb Dual Channel Graphics Card HD 3200 graphics /GMA x3100 (yay for intergrated!!) Is it protected with WEP?
If not, some one may be using your connection, probably a neighbor. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Cheap $399.00 E-Machine OS Windows 7 Pro & Vista Home Premium CPU Athlon 64 3800+ (Orleans) 2.40GHz Motherboard Winfast Memory 2GB DDR2 RAM DIMM Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT 512 MB memory HDMI out Sound Card creative X-Fi Exteme 7..1 channel Monitor(s) Displays Acer V223W 22" widescreen DVI Screen Resolution 1680x1050 Keyboard Dell Mouse Sony Vaio PSU OCZ 550 watt Case Gateway Cooling 2 fans Hard Drives WDC WD5 500GB

There's WPA2 aswell right? ... Could your laptop have been gathering Windows Updates in the background? I'd say that it's quite probable.
WEP isn't very safe. WPA2 is much stronger, and highly recommended over WEP | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom built machine OS W7 x64 CPU Intel Q9300 2.5Ghz Quad LGA775 (Would like Q9650) Motherboard Gigabyte GA-EP45T-UD3R (F6 Bios) Memory 4Gb OCZ Gold 1,333Mhz Graphics Card Palit HD4850 O/C Sonic 512Mb DDR3, Dual DViD's Sound Card Azalia to twin Samson 50w Studio Monitors Monitor(s) Displays Twin Dell (E-IPS) U2311H 23.6" Screens Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz Keyboard Cherry PS/2 custom model Mouse Logitech M500 Laser Mouse PSU OCZ 600w Case Lian-Li PC8 acoustifoamed' aluminium tower Cooling Scythe 140mm Zipang Hard Drives Twin 1Tb Barracuda archivage, Twin TV/PVR 2Tb Samsungs, (80Gb Barracuda for the OS, but SSD envisaged...)
