My laptop is downloading from somewhere! ...

Yeah, My laptop is downloading from somewhere.. and I don't like it..

I can tell because, I have a wireless light that flashes.. and when it flashes really fast, it means it's downloading.. but I really don't have anything that I am downloading.. It's just doing it on it's own and I'm sure I haven't got any program doing it.. It happens at random times & goes on for at least 20 minutes, sometimes longer

Is there any program I can download where I can stop my network card from downloading from a certain IP address or place.. like disable it from downloading from anywhere..?

Thanks

Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, clean install, upgrade disc

First Windows 7 has many tasks, which it performs on its own, the primary one is indexing. It also makes image copies, system copies on a regular basis. It scans for errors, and the AV may also scan and download. Find out what is happening. You can check task manager for scheduled activity. You can also go to services to see what is scheduled. If there is nothing, a good firewall will be sure to help. Check for virus. Finally secure your network, by making it password protected. You can check help for information there. Good luck.

you can use TCPview TCPView for Windows to check first..
or if you want the CL version you can use netstat to find out what is connecting to where....
there are many things that could be going on
this can also be a great time do manual scans for malware just in case some got in...

Ok, It seems the download has stopped for now, so I will have to wait again..

But as soon as it's back, I'll give that a try.. and hopefully put an end to it & use all of my bandwidth to much better use

Is it protected with WEP?

If not, some one may be using your connection, probably a neighbor.

I've got my wireless router protected with WPA-TSK security.. So pretty much the best, kinda.

There's WPA2 aswell right? ... But that caused a few problems for me a little earlier in the year..

Could your laptop have been gathering Windows Updates in the background? I'd say that it's quite probable.

WEP isn't very safe. WPA2 is much stronger, and highly recommended over WEP

More than likely it is gathering Windows Updates. You should see the icon near the clock if so.
