    AIM Problem

OK, ever since I tried, back in december, build 6956 of Win7 I have a problem with AIM.

AIM opens fine then, I log in... and it closes itself.

I tried both run as admin and Compatibility mode. Nothing works. Is there a work around?

And NO, I won't download something else. I prefer official clients.

    EDIT

I'll be trying AIM 6.9 beta 2. I'll keep you informed.

Sorry for double posting but I need to help everyone that has the problem.
AIM 6 not working with Windows 7 64 bit? : Windows 7 Application Compatibility : Windows 7 Beta : Microsoft TechNet Forums
    I just fixed mine by doing the following: Rename/delete C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\VS7DEBUG\pdm.dll

This is a debugging tool for javascript in IE, which apparently leads to this crash. I renamed mine pdm.old

I have Aim 6 with Windows 7 64 bit beta as well.
    It actually works.

Sorry for bringing up an old thread but i'm having the same issue. AIM have crashed my system twice already. I tried to navigate to the folder mentioned above but got stuck after microsoft shared. There's no VS7DEBUG folder.

    Anyways, i'm on 32bit.

Hey i have tried 3 different versions of aim even the new beta but same thing happens... log in everything looks and works fine like moving the windows around, but once i send a message the Im window and the buddy list window freeze, now if i leave it alone it will send 2-5 min later and does this with every message... and if i click the program while it is sending it freezes any ideas?

(I'm using Windows 7 64 bit, AIM 7.1 and I had the same problem as you Sumguy105, but AIM would also freeze upon receipt of a message.) Within AIM, under Menu-->Settings, I went through and set AIM do the minimum possible for every activity listed. This fixed the problem for me. One feature I like however, is to hear a sound when a message arrives. I changed the setting for that back to "Play this sound" and the problem returned--AIM froze up the next time I got a message. So perhaps, the problem is that AIM can't play sounds on my system. Perhaps it is my anti-virus software (McAfee) sensing an invasion whenever AIM tries to play a sound or perhaps I have the operating system set to not play sounds or perhaps the .WAV files are not where AIM expects them to be. I don't know. I'm hoping that someone can figure it out and post the solution. In the meantime, I'm running AIM with none of the computer-generated sounds. So far, it works fine that way. Hope this helps.

Windows 7 Compatibility with AIM solved!

Along with many others, I had the problem whereby my AIM would freeze when I received an IM from someone and we spent many hours trying to resolve it, systematically disabling firewalls and everything on the computer. I have a new Dell 64 Bit XPS 8100 computer.
It turns out that the problem was with the Realtek Audio Software which came with the new computer. They had installed version 2010 (that is incompatble), if you retrieve Realtek version 2009, it will solve the problem. Also, if there is any Sound Blaster software on your computer not being used, I would delete it.
I have no idea why these things conflict but they do; hope this helps! Stockweb
