ipod software update server - cannot connect

mediamonkey corrupted my ipod (again) so i installed itunes to restore it. i've not used it on windows 7 before.

i'm online, but i get an error that says itunes cannot connect to the ipod software update server.

    apple says to do this:

iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPod or iPhone software update server

is there an equivalent action in windows 7? what exactly does this do to solve the problem?

    (i'm on a wireless connection...)

    thanks!

i'm bumping this thread with a new issue - the movie database sofware Media Man is also not connecting, even with my firewall disabled. i have no issues with firefox or ie getting online. what could be blocking these other apps?

There are a couple of them in there that are connected to Apple /Ipod etc, I am sure you checked them all, if you didn't, have another look in there, you might have missed one ,if you didn't I am sorry that's how I sorted it out on mine ,but dont worry someone will have the answer for you if I dont, mark my words, best of luck.

i'm certain all the proper services and processes are running. because of the issue now with Media Man i'm convinced it's a network issue, but i can't imagine what it is.

i hope you're right about someone having a solution :)

i've just realized this is probably the same issue that has prevented my sidebar gadgets from accessing the internet lately. what would let some apps through and block others?

maybe i should completely uninstall NOD32 and see if that changes anything. though i've triple-checked and all problem apps are allowed through. and the problem does not go away when i disable the firewall...
