ping/connect to windows xp mode virtual pc

I need to set up a web server and sql 200 server on my windows xp mode virtual pc.

I cannot ping the windows xp mode virtual pc from windows 7, bit I CAN ping the windows 7 IP from the windows xp mode virtual pc

There is not anitvirus running on the windows xp mode virtual pc (yet) and I tried disabling the xp firewall which made no difference. It is so far a very plain vanilla install.

    What to do?

    Thanks!

Works for me. My Win 7 box has a 192.168.2.3 IP and shows XP Mode IP as 192.168.56.1 while XP Mode window shows it as 192.168.2.4. I can ping either 192.168.56.1 or 192.168.2.4 successfully.

Can not Ping Public IP from XP Virtual

This is the same but different I think. I can ping back and forth from XP virtual and Windows 7. I can ping a public IP from WIndows 7 but not XP virtual. Do I need a route stement in the virtual? The XP Virtual does get to the internet with no problem.

I don't have a route statement setup and it works for me, both UNC and IP Address:

    C:\Documents and Settings\XPMUser>
    Code:
    ping www.moizilla.org

Pinging www-mozilla-org.glb.mozilla.net [63.245.209.11] with 32 bytes of data:

    Reply from 63.245.209.11: bytes=32 time=95ms TTL=238
    Reply from 63.245.209.11: bytes=32 time=93ms TTL=238
    Reply from 63.245.209.11: bytes=32 time=104ms TTL=238
    Reply from 63.245.209.11: bytes=32 time=95ms TTL=238

    Ping statistics for 63.245.209.11:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 93ms, Maximum = 104ms, Average = 96ms

    Code:
    ping 63.245.209.11
