HomeGroup password is incorrect.

I have two PCs on the same network, and I test HomeGroup in the following steps on Windows 7 build 7000.

1. Create a homegroup on PC a

a. Goto Control Panel->Network and Internet->NetWork and Sharing Center

Make sure :

(1) The network is Home network, not Work or Public
(2) The Tag of HomeGroup is Ready to create, and click it

b. Click Create now button, and follow the instructions and finish it.

2. join homegroup on PC b

a. Goto Control Panel->Network and Internet->HomeGroup, and click join now button.

b. And now I can see the following prompt, "* has create a homegroup that you can join", * is the user name of my PC a.

c. Click join now button, input the password generated by creating homegroup on PC a.

d. Show the prompt saying the password is incorrect.

I can guarantee the password is the one generated on PC a.

I have ran out of ideas, anyone got a suggestion?

Silly question, but were you sure to enter the password with the proper case sensitivity?

If I am very sure about it, and I also change the password to "abc123456", still it prompts the error of incorrect password.

Any suggestion?

Hi wangchangqiu and welcome to the forum!

Please go to Control Panel>HomeGroup
Click on "view or print home group password"
If your passwords as you claimed checks out, next step is just to change the password and use the new password, then try again.

If that fails for some reason, run the Troubleshooting in Control Panel>Troubleshooting>HomeGroup

Please let us know how it turns out for yah

I do the Troubleshooting on the PC wants to join HomeGroup, and found the issue of "You are not connected to a homegroup"

And do the Troubleshooting on the PC created HomeGroup, and do not find any issue.

Both PCs have passwords set for the current user.

And could you please say it more detailed how to check share privilege?

Same issue here.

I'm having the exact same issue here. To make matters even more fun, I cannot get my video library, which is available via network drive, to share. The computer that owns the home group shows all the videos there. I can play the videos from that computer fine, but I can't get it to communicate ANYTHING to any other computer/device (PS3) on the network.
