Windows 7: Double Gateway.

Double Gateway.

Hi Guys,

I'm an IT student and i downloaded Windows 7 with MSDN Licensy just before the release of Windows 7 to test it for advising people for there new computer/notebook or to make the step from Vista/XP to Windows 7.

When i was installing Windows 7 everything went fine, but couldn't intall Windows 7 x64. so i installed Windows 7 x86 no problem in the first month's.

But now for about 2 weeks i get a problem with my network interface card.
When i boot up my notebook i can't get a network connection. I'm connected with my router in my home, but i can't go to the internet.
If i go to CMD and type ipconfig i get the following information:

IP-adres: 192.168.1.10... (it changes every time because of multiple computers in my home)
Subnetmask: 255.255.255.0
*Everything here is normal.*
Gateway: 0.0.0.0
192.168.1.1

The 192.168.1.1 is the normal gateway. but the 0.0.0.0 doesn't belong here. i can solve the problem temporarily by uninstall my network device in hardware manager. and then search for new devices he is installing the driver again and i have a connection.

But the next time i boot up my notebook the problem is back. I did a driver update, but this didn't solve the problem. my driver is now from august 2009 so the newest.

i hope someone can help me with this problem.

*sorry for my crappy english but i'm dutch and my grammar is really bad with every language.*

Hi. Google how to assign a static ip address to the NIC.

You will learn a little about networking in the process and have a pc that boots slightly faster too. And if you ever want to serve (torrents, HTTP, FTP etc...), you'll then only have to port forward from the router to the machine.

In your bios, if you have more than one lan setting, disable one of them and test. (Disregard lan boot and do not consider this as one of the two. Pay no attention to it in the equation.) If you only have one setting for enable lan, leave it be.

Ok tnx i will try it, but its not smart to set static IP on my computer, because of the other computers using DHCP. so i will try too check the BIOS.

I'm going to try an update for the NIC from the Realtek website, because the other one is from Windows Update and before the release of Windows 7.

if it works i'm going to post it here.

tnx

Yes, it's smart. It will not affect other pcs on the network in any way. Choose an IP address far off what others are using, like .200
