If you are on Windows XP and planning to UPGRADE...

There is no upgrade path.

There are user migration tools you can use, but you will need to backup your files and do a clean install. I have seen several threads about this and just want to clarify. The upgrade from Windows Vista is a valid upgrade path, but Windows XP to Windows 7 is not

Windows 7
you are not alone

Microsoft won't acknowledge that this problem is widespread, but it definitely is. They have no solution to it. I've spent over 4 hours with them on the phone and on chat, including with remote assistance, to try to resolve this problem, but they have no solutions.

My computer's internet connection worked perfectly - NEVER had a problem - before upgrading to 7 (from Vista). My xbox 360 still works perfectly, but my internet connection will drop from time to time on my laptop. Running "ping Bing -t" leaves me with similar results to yours - most of the time it returns the expected data promptly, but around 20% of the time, I get the "request timed out" reply. I've updated all my drivers, reset IE, uninstalled IE (now using Chrome), flushed DNS, renewed IP address, etc...all to no avail. Sometimes my connection will magically be fine, but the next time I use it - who knows?

Until this problem is solved, the only real solution we have to publicize this problem as much as possible, and make sure you advise everyone you know not to upgrade. This might inspire a solution from Microsoft.
