    Windows 7 Printer Sharing

I am running Windows 7 Professional Connected to an HP Laserjet 1020. I am trying to share this printer with network printers as of now file sharing works seamlessly on vista, and other windows 7 machines.

On windows 7 machine an error pops up when trying to connect to printer

On vista machine printer is connected however when jobs are sent to the printer it sits in the queue until restart.

    Some ideas:

If you are trying to use HomeGroup it only works with all Win7 PC's!

Make sure the Win7 driver is on Win7 PC's and Vista driver on Vista PC's.

Please be a little more clear in your explanation... help us help u!

    Hello,

I have tried sharing windows 7 to windows 7 using the homegroup... however other than file sharing I have found little success. I have shared as well using the network sharing center with the following settings:
    1) Network Discover On
    2) File and Printer Sharing On
    3) Sharing so anyone with network access can read and write files to public folders On
    4) 128-bit encryption
    5) Password Protected Sharing OFF
    6) Homegroup Connection: Use user accounts and passwords to connect to other computers.

    Symptoms:
1)Printer connected to desktop prints when jobs are sent.
2)When a print job is sent from Vista Home x64 machine print job enters queue but does not print until desktop is restarted. As windows starts the queue job prints.
3)Other windows 7 machine receives: windows could not connect to the printer check name and try again.

I have tried turning off firewalls with little affect

    Any help is appreciated, thanks.

    Bump.

Both Windows 7 Machines have windows 7 drivers, vista machine has windows vista drivers as well. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Last thought would be to remove all my printer drivers from all my machines and start over, how would I remove all the drivers?

Have you tried this Installing and sharing an HP Laserjet 1020 on Win7 x64 seems a lot of people found it useful. The search function at the root of this forum https://www.sevenforums.com/ has proven to be a very valuable tool for me and others here. I found this one by just typing in your printer model and there are a lot of other threads contained in the search results that you may find helpful. Hope this helps and if it does be sure and thank the guys in that thread

Same problem I'am having, job sits in queue if I print from a networked machine and it won't print until I restart. I get the error messages also. This happens on my Windows 7 machines using Homegroups. My printer is very old so I'm not too surprized, it's not the HP 1020 but the symptoms are the same. The driver package I was using did say that network printing may not work properly in Windows 7.

Looks like the method linked to above works for the HP 1020 anyway, although it seems to be more of a work around.

Thanks! I used the link and it solved most of my problems, I still have one error occuring. On my windows 7 machine that is networked to the shared printer, after a couple of minutes of being connected it greys out and says spooler service not available.

Your print spooler keeps crashing, it is a problem we have been having with these printers and Windows 7. You need to turn the printer off, start the spooler and clear the print queue. Otherwise it will crash again as soon as you start the spooler.

If anyone knows why, it would be very useful to me.
