Connects, but no Internet Hi, I recently bought a Gateway NV5814u laptop and it was eligible for a free upgrade to Windows 7. Before upgrading to Windows 7 the laptop connected to the internet flawlessly. Now after I upgraded to Windows 7, it will connect to the network, but will not work.
Here are the things that I've tried to attempt to fix this problem:
Uninstalled the wireless card built into the laptop via Device Manager.
Upgraded the driver for the wireless card to the newest version. Downloaded the driver from Intel's website and Gateway's website.
Disconnected, reconnected, re-entered the WEP key.
I went to my friends house who has a wireless internet and still the same things happen.
Now, I can connect in Safe Mode w/ Networking, but thats it.
Any ideas? I've been working on this for days and cannot seem to figure out whats going on.
Thanks for any help! | My System Specs |

Most all of us agree that an upgrade is not the route to take. It leaves useless files on your system and can cause conflicts.which you are experiencing now.
Save all you Documents, Pictures, contacts, videos, music, etc to a flash drive,
Be aware, you will need to re-install your 3rd party applications. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Cheap $399.00 E-Machine OS Windows 7 Pro & Vista Home Premium CPU Athlon 64 3800+ (Orleans) 2.40GHz Motherboard Winfast Memory 2GB DDR2 RAM DIMM Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT 512 MB memory HDMI out Sound Card creative X-Fi Exteme 7..1 channel Monitor(s) Displays Acer V223W 22" widescreen DVI Screen Resolution 1680x1050 Keyboard Dell Mouse Sony Vaio PSU OCZ 550 watt Case Gateway Cooling 2 fans Hard Drives WDC WD5 500GB

You didn't mention it in your post, but are you suggesting I do a fresh install with my upgrade disk?

I understand that I'll lose everything from a fresh install, but is this really what normal 'upgrade' users have to do to get everything working with the internet?
I'm just curious because I rather not re-install everything, but if this will fix it then I'll go for it. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Gateway NV5814u OS Windows 7 Home Premium CPU Intel Core Duo 2 T6500 Memory 4GB Monitor(s) Displays 15.6" 16:9 HD LED LCD Hard Drives 320GB |

Can you connect to websites by ip addresses?
Type this into I.E. and hit enter: http://74.86.229.157
Do you see any website?
Check your hosts file too that it doesn't contain any entries other than 127.0.0.1 localhost
It's at C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts
Open it with notepad. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number self built OS 7600.20510 x86 CPU P4 550 3.4 GHz HT running at 3.5 GHz Motherboard MSI PM8M3-V (MS-7211 v1.x) Micro-ATX mainboard Memory OCZ 2 GB(2x1GB) DDR400mHz running @ 414 mHz Graphics Card HIS Radeon HD 3850 IceQ 3 Turbo HDMI Dual DL-DVI AGP Sound Card MOTU Traveler firewire studio interface 192 kHz 24 bit Monitor(s) Displays 22" widescreen Acer X223W LCD, 17" Compaq P75 CRT Screen Resolution 1680x1050 and 1280x1024 Keyboard Logitch Classical Keyboard 200 Mouse Logitech Mediaplay cordless PSU 350W generic Case Cybertronpc, it glows blue Cooling stock cpu fan, Ice-Q 3 gpu and system, many case fans Hard Drives SATA I x2 WD, 400 GB and 120 GB, SATA 2 WD Caviar Black 1 TB Internet Speed 1792/448 kbits/sec Other Info SATA II PCI fake RAID adapter, 1 GB Readyboost, original ATI Remote Wonder (even works with WMC perfectly), Logitech Rumblepad 2 game controller x2 |
