Connects, but no Internet

Hi, I recently bought a Gateway NV5814u laptop and it was eligible for a free upgrade to Windows 7. Before upgrading to Windows 7 the laptop connected to the internet flawlessly. Now after I upgraded to Windows 7, it will connect to the network, but will not work.

Here are the things that I've tried to attempt to fix this problem:

Uninstalled the wireless card built into the laptop via Device Manager.

Upgraded the driver for the wireless card to the newest version. Downloaded the driver from Intel's website and Gateway's website.

Disconnected, reconnected, re-entered the WEP key.

I went to my friends house who has a wireless internet and still the same things happen.

Now, I can connect in Safe Mode w/ Networking, but thats it.
Any ideas? I've been working on this for days and cannot seem to figure out whats going on.

Thanks for any help!

Most all of us agree that an upgrade is not the route to take. It leaves useless files on your system and can cause conflicts.which you are experiencing now.

Save all you Documents, Pictures, contacts, videos, music, etc to a flash drive,

Be aware, you will need to re-install your 3rd party applications.

You didn't mention it in your post, but are you suggesting I do a fresh install with my upgrade disk?

Thanks for responding quickly!

I understand that I'll lose everything from a fresh install, but is this really what normal 'upgrade' users have to do to get everything working with the internet?

I'm just curious because I rather not re-install everything, but if this will fix it then I'll go for it.

You have a simple dns issue.

Follow my advice from this thread. Look at both posts.

Enjoy.

Can you connect to websites by ip addresses?

Type this into I.E. and hit enter:

http://74.86.229.157

Do you see any website?

Check your hosts file too that it doesn't contain any entries other than 127.0.0.1 localhost

It's at C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts

Open it with notepad.

Okay, I can view the website by IP Address.

Now, there is another entry, I deleted that entry, but how should I save the file? In other words, what format? .txt?

Try going to start ? Run,. an and type cmd. Now type ping google.com

My average time is about 45ms. What is yours?

You can also type ipconfig /flushdns
