    Another Wireless Connection issue thread

    Hey all,

I am having issues with my wireless adapter in Windows 7. It is a Linksys WRT54GS. I had no problems at all in Windows XP. I am on broadband and the router I am using is also the model number WRT54GS. It is currently running DD-WRT v24.

    Here's what the problems are:

    • If I open more than 4 tabs in firefox they load unbearably slow. If I let them each load it takes easily 2 minutes before they do if they do.
    • My download speed from a reputable site (i.e. Cnet) is 10kb/s and MAY jump to 15 kb/s.
    • My computer is no longer able to stream on a consistent basis to my Xbox360. It takes 2 minutes to open a folder with 5 - 10 video files in it and then takes 2 minutes to load one to watch. After that, I am lucky if the streaming remains steady as it decides at random times that it needs to do another 2 minute load.
    • I have a printer hooked up to this computer and my dad sent a document to it today. It was a small document under 2 - 3 mb from my understanding and it printed very slowly, one line at a time before it stopped.
    • If I try to access the router itself through this wireless connection it is slow to unresponsive.

I have tried many "fixes" I have found online that include the following:

    • Re-install drivers for wireless
    • Rollback the Realtek update for my Ethernet ports
    • Disable RCB (I have reenabled it atm)
    • Change the limitable bandwidth percentage to 0
    • Disable Windows 7 firewall
    • Disable IPv6

None of these "fixes" have done anything for me. I am running free AVG for my AV program and I cannot find anything that says it has a firewall. My computer specs should be listed in my name I believe but I can repost them here if anyone thinks that will help.

Hardwiring is not really an option as this computer is 2 floors below the router.

One other thing I have done is a speedtest.net report. Here it is:

    https://www.speedtest.net/result/633741108.png

Now, I ran the same test 1 MINUTE after I did that one on a laptop running Windows XP and the numbers were this:

    Download: 3.34Mb/s
    Upload: 0.41Mb/s

Thanks for any help you could provide as I'm at wit's end.

    Hi there.

Uninstall AVG. It is the internet's worst application in the world and is probably causing you issues. Disabling will not have the same effect.

If not, you still will be better off. You couldn't guess how many pcs I've helper repair on here with that, ranging from bsod to you name it.

Alright, I uninstalled AVG and left the computer off all not. For some reason I feel like my connections are getting saturated, too many at once due to utorrent so I wanted to let the router and computer clear out so to speak.

It is still very slow, AVG being uninstalled helped very little at best. Here is a link to a speedtest I just ran: https://www.speedtest.net/result/634566106.png

That is with the computer being off for 9+hours and just turning it on, AVG uninstalled.

My connection is Road runner cable broadband.

One other thing I thought of is when I was trying these fixes I upped the virtual limit of my tcp connections from default (10 I think) to unlimited. I don't think 7 has a hard limit file any more so I just messed with the virtual one. It was slow before I changed that so I hold little hope it will be better when I change it back or set it at a lower number but I'm gonna try that later.

    Any other thoughts?

Thanks for the help so far btw.
